FOOT PROBLEMS AND BUNIONS
There are some excellent professionally produced video and information packs relation to this problem. I have attempted to source what i consider is some of the best links. Every patient has a diferent foot problem with a variety of difernent types and extent of the big toe bunion deformity.
These vary from minor to sevear, some totally pain free some agonising. The extent of the deformity does not relate to the problems or pain caused with the foot problem.
I have undertaken most types of foot problems and bunion procedure, some I like, some I don't. not all patients and foot problems or bunions are suitable to any specific procedure. Therefore its important that I have a wide range of procedurese available. However I do have some preferences which are based on the Barouk principles of bunion surgery, using special angled bone cuts in the metatarsal and the big toe, as well as correcting the soft tissue around the joint of the foot problem, to give the best functional position for the joint. I use special canulated screws to obtail best position for the correction.
Operations are undertaken usually as a daycase, so there is no overnight stay required, unless there are medical considerations.
The procedure is normally carried out under regional anaestesia, this is when a very strong Local Anaestetic is give around the ankle.
For some nervous patients intervenious sedation or General Anaestetics are administered by The teams Consultant Anaestatist.
